Greetings nerdlings

Do you know how happy finding Wil Wheaton's blog has made me the last couple weeks? I feel my inner dork coming out more often now. We can thank my sudden possible intrest in playing FF11 on two things: the rest of the family playing... and my realization that being geeky is something that I just need to fully embrace. It's a part of me that isn't going anywhere and it doesn't compromise my "cool points." I can thank Aaron, Munchkin and Buffyverse RPG's for that!

So to honor my newfound full comfort with dorkdom (let's face it, I've always admitted to being geeky... I'm just finally fully aware of and happy with the extent of it) more droolness for Wil fans. ;)
The beard just enhances people. And not everyone who can grow one carries it off well either. Jessica is lucky to be married to someone who CAN carry it off. Matthew can't and knows it so he doesn't even try... thank heaven! Can I just say he seems like the nicest person in the world too? Not just some pompous @$$hat that thinks the world owes him something. I can't wait to have enough extra money to buy one (or all) of his books. I'm even overlooking the whole Democrat thing. He's not obnoxious about it, and he's from LA. Most folks around here just are that way. I forgive him.

And the other dork moment that made me totally gasp today...

To anyone that said Robert Pattinson was a horrible casting choice for Edward... eat that!

When I first read the books I had nobody in particular in my head (I don't think up actors to act out my books... I just kinda get vague images in my head, probably hybrids of people I've known or something, any way) so if you had asked me my favorite casting choice I wouldn't really have had an idea. I would have guessed some actor that's way too old for the part because I don't really know many of the young ones these days (guess that's good since I'm 26 now). I just would have said that I'd know him when I saw him.

Then I read who they cast. I was ecstatic! I knew INSTANTLY he was perfect! All those other actors that girls were boo-hooing about not being in it were all wrong. Those nay-sayers must not have really read the books because they all had the wrong coloring... skin, hair etc. Tan/olive skin and dark brown hair won't work people! She distinctly repeats over and over that he's got BRONZE hair. That's like a golden redish color. RP is a doll and I'm totally stoked for this!

Enough for tonight though. :) Have fun drooling and I'll post again soon!

I’m not a Pitt fan

Don’t get me wrong, the man IS gorgeous. I’m just not into him. I enjoy the few of his movies he’s been in (that I’ve seen), enjoy the eye candy, and move on. I saw Troy for Orlando and extra credit (I happened to be taking western civ. that semester), saw Snatch because it was on at a party, Mr. & Mrs. Smith for Angelina, Ocean’s Eleven because you just gotta… you get the idea. I’ve never seen Seven, Legends of the Fall, Fight Club, Babel or most of his “great works”.

I think it’s because I’ve never liked Mr. Popularity types. In high school I was able to acknowledge that the popular guys were cute but never had crushes on them or daydreamed about going to prom with them. The guys I liked had their own air of cuteness, and usually made me laugh a lot. That’s why I always say that if I had met Matthew in HS I’d never had married him. He was one of THOSE guys. He wasn’t Mr. Popular, but he was an obvious cutie with girls all over him. I think it’s the competition factor. Why would I want a guy that all the other chicks want and I’d have to fight them off all the time? Not interested. I actually would have had a crush on his funny/“geeky” brother. Funny how timing in life is so important huh?

I think it’s carried over into my celebrity crush thing too. Orlando being the exception, I’m not really into the guys that everyone is into. When I first “fell in love” with Johnny I was like 6 or 7. Not many little girls my age and up through middle school were into him because he was “old”. I wasn’t into Jonathan Brandis, the Cameron brothers (K and M) or anyone in New Kids on the Block, but I loved JD. I went through a Jonathan Taylor Thomas phase (middle kid on Home Improvement) but in my defense, he wasn’t THAT popular. :P I liked Leonardo Dicaprio, but got annoyed by a lot of the attention he got for William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet (one of my favorites) and totally turned off after Titanic. I still like him as an actor, he’s improved by leaps and bounds the last couple years (if you haven’t seen The Aviator or The Departed, you MUST) and I think I’m a fan again.

Anyway, back to the point of this entry. My morning show was giving away tickets to the premier screening of Ocean’s Thirteen for the umpteenth time this morning. They called the game Pitt Stop and they played clips from Brad Pitt movies and you had to identify them to get into the drawing to get the tickets. They played clips from (in this order): Snatch, Seven, Babel, Troy and Fight Club. By the time they reached the clip for Fight Club they announced that because no one had been able to guess any yet that it was sudden death (the first person to be smart enough to figure it out wins). Now… I knew them ALL but Babel because I don’t know anything about that movie, but if I had I know I would have been able to figure it out. The clips were THAT obvious folks. They said if you’re a big Pitt fan it should have been easy. I’m not and I was able to do it.

Snatch- some of his gibberish talking to another guy with a thick cockney accent (he plays an Irish gypsy in that movie and the running joke is the accent is so crazy that you can’t understand a word he says during the entire movie except for the occasional “f*ck”). The guess was some movie I’d never heard of.
Seven- some guy describing how he killed a woman and BP protesting having to listen to it (I guess there was a line about wrath in there somewhere too, but I never heard it). The guess was Fight Club.

Babel- something about a girl getting shot in the neck and please call the embassy. Obvious enough I’m sure if I knew the plot of the movie. The guess was Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

Troy- I can’t remember WHERE in the movie it was but the name Achilles was said at least 4 times during it and there was a bunch of “people remember kings, not warriors” b.s. in it too. That guy was taking too long so you could tell he was trying to Google it, they hung up on him.

Fight Club- BP was asking some guy to punch him and must have had the word “fight” in it 6 times… that guy finally got it right.

You know what was really sad about the whole thing? Last week they did the same thing with George Clooney (I’ve seen even LESS of his movies) and was able to identify 3 of them… one of which I’d never seen either (Good Night and Good Luck and it was a clip where they were talking about TV and ratings). The other 2 were From Dusk ‘Til Dawn and Batman and Robin (he was a HORRIBLE Batman btw).

Since we have all this movie talk… have you heard about the new program at select Regal theaters? They have a pager thing they give you that you can let the manager know when someone/thing is being disruptive during the movie. No more having to get up and go find someone! You just have to push a little button!! :D What a great idea!!

Time for bed...

but first... my new header... ;D

Almost all is by Gina Miller Designs. The only thing that isn't is actually the editing that went with my new filters!! Fun! Busy day tomorrow... I'll try to remember to take pictures and post them!

PS. I saw Shrek the Third with Mia, Bug, Matthew and Shaun tonight. It was totally cute!

Oops!

I was wrong. His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass doesn't come out until Christmas time. That's actually better because it'll offset the Harry Potter craze that's coming this summer (gives me something to look forward to). I *think* they may be doing the every 18 month thing like HP does (except they'll be offset from each other) because the next one is scheduled for 2009 (12/09 is when HP: HBP would come out) and I think it'd be stupid to compete with it. While both book series are phenominal, HP is the better known of the two and HBP is a better book than The Subtle Knife (imo). GC introduces the trilogy, SK is where LOTS of plotlines of seemingly disconncted stories. It all gets tied up neatly in The Amber Spyglass, but I don't think these books are easily converted into 3 seperate movies. It's more like one movie 3 VERY big pieces. They're fantastic reads though. I just got sucked into them.

Anywho... I went to the movie's site today and took a test to tell me what my daemon is. If you agree just leave it be and in 12 days it'll be settled. If not, you can leave comments to change it. Cool huh? Just like in the books. Go ahead and take your own test. Let me know if I need to comment on yours!

Summer of awesome movies

Mostly sequals or #’s in serials but still. I’m starting a MUST SEE list so I don’t forget them all.

Spiderman 3
POTC 3 (I just saw the trailer… SOOOOOO cool!)
HP & the OOTP (see bottom for countdown)
the final Bourne movie (LOVED the first 2)
Transformers (This is more for Matthew… GC is more for me)
The Golden Compass (The first of the His Dark Materials series by Phillip Pullman. I read these books several years ago, just happened upon them accidentally and they’re FANTASTIC… I had no clue a movie was coming until I saw stills linked on MSN. I’m SOOO excited! JK Rowling likes them too… that’s an endorsement! *wink*)
And a Nancy Drew movie that I know nothing about but I’m sure it’ll be cute

Cult films never live up to the hype

I finally saw The Crow last night. I should have seen it in 1994. I would have liked it better then. I enjoyed it, I'd watch it again, it's not my newest favorite movie, nor did it ever change my life. I also don't understand what the HUGE staying power it seems to have. As Satan said in South Park last Halloween... "BUT… nobody better show up as The Crow! I'm serious. Every costume party there's like fourteen guys come dressed like the Crow 'cause they wanna look hot and hook up. IT'S LAME! If you come dressed as the Crow, you're NOT GETTING IN to the party!"

Granted... occasionally he was hot, I'm not that into it I guess. He kinda reminded me of Ville Vallo of H.I.M. Hot in one shot and NOT in another. LOL I don't get Goth culture. It intrigues me, but I guess I don't GET it. I honestly at one point asked where Azrael Abyss and Circe Nightshade were (SNL reference for those of you that don't know... I'm sorry... I LOVE Chris Kattan and you can educate yourself here and here).

This is Halloween

First and foremost... Happy Hollow Weenie!! ;) All you Christmas people can now get

So in case you haven't heard yet... Nightmare Before Christmas has a new re-release of the soundtrack. This is to go along with the re-release of the movie in 3D. I bought it last Wednesday and love it. It's a 2 disc edition, disc 1 being the classic soundtrack. The 2nd disc was the reason for buying it (as I've already owned the original for years). It has several covers of songs from the movie.

Artists are:

Marilyn Manson- This is Halloween, the man really knows how to cover great music, I always enjoy his work
Fiona Apple- Sally's Lament, it's fantastic to hear her voice again and an IMPROVEMENT upon the original recording
Panic! at the Disco- This is Halloween, they're always awesome, I have yet to be disappointed with something they do. I was just a little bummed that they didn't pick another song as MM's version totally out shone this one
She Wants Revenge- Kidnap the Sandy Claws, I was actually a little disappointed with their job... not too creative, just slow techno
Fall Out Boy- What's This?, fun, like the band and the true spirit of the song
Danny Elfman- these are demos that he did for the movies as mock-ups for formulating puppet scenes and storyboards. I think several of them are shown on the DVD in storyboard form but its fun to have them all on sound files now because they’re worth listening to as well. Danny sings all the parts and cues, just another testament of his fantastic talent. The songs also include lines that were later deleted from the film… fun to see the work in progress.

We saw the 3D incarnation of the movie last weekend at the El Capitan. It was so much fun. None of the cheesy 3D effects that are usually in movies (I was soo hoping they didn't add anything corny). It really just adds dimension to the whole picture. It looks more like you're looking into another world with different actors, rather than an animated/flat world. Industrial Light Magic was behind the transformation so I send a huge kudos their way as it was done wonderfully. They truly are masters. It was also great to see it on the big screen again. I saw it when it came out the first time, 13 years ago, for my 12th birthday. It's all I wanted to do. I didn't care about presents or cake that year, just seeing Tim Burton's latest work of art. It's funny how some things don't ever change. :)

Last night I helped Katie put her costume together. All summer she talked about being Lenore, the cute little dead girl. All summer long my mother told her to get her butt in gear and get a pattern and material while it was available, cheap and she had time to help. It didn't happen. Mom didn't have time, little girl put it off too long and was being REALLY picky about back-up clothing lying around the house. Big sister to the rescue! I made her hair clips out of some Bazzill cardstock and Diamond Glaze. She had to let the glaze dry overnight so she was supposed to hot glue them to black bendy clips this morning. I helped her realize that she's really just dressing up for fun with her friends and they would know who she is being. We washed her Lenore t-shirt (last years Christmas present from yours truly) and found a suitable black skirt. Roxanne is supposed to document it photographically for me.

I also consoled her by telling her that NEXT summer she'll sew a Lenore dress while Roxanne and I try to figure out how to sew Little Red Riding Hood and American McGee's Alice dresses. Then next year we'll all have kick azz costumes. She didn't seem to think that'd work as she wouldn't have a place to wear it (um, just because you're not in high school anymore doesn't mean you don't have a place to wear a costume silly!). She got happier when she realized that she may go to Comic Con next fall too, at least she can wear it then! Silly girl, who told you that you can grow up and act like a drama queen teenager? I guess now that she's 17 she can have a small melt-down once in awhile. ;)
