Christine Smith, formerly with The Digi Chick, and now running ScrapQuick blogged this AWESOME tip.
Instead of dragging elements into your layout from an opened, separate file (your little tray at the bottom) you can just open it IN your open project! Open "file" and select the "place" option! Maybe I'm one of the last to know this... but I'm SO glad she mentioned it on her blog!
